How's My Writing?

Aaron Davis

Blog Audit

English 101

To be completely honest, one of my favorite writings was the blog about the “Disconnected” documentary. It gave me an insight on what life would be like without all of the fancy things, and actually have to work hard for it. My least favorite blog had to be about finding Stevie! It frustrated me because other than just looking around, we couldn’t really explain how else we found the clues. I’d like to explore the “Fruitvale Station” situation a little bit more, because I believe that there was some injustice in that situation. One of my strongest blogs would have to have been the one about “The Crucible” because I was familiar with the material so it was easier for me to analyze. What makes it effective is that, in my first blog about Proctor, I made mention that both adulterers were wrong; I did my best to not be biased. My weakest blog was “My Playlist, Myself” because it’s so hard to pick favorite songs when there are so many varieties and so many different artist.

Posting my journal entries online positively affected my writing. It gave me a chance to see what all the hoopla about blogging was; I got some nice feedback, which was kind of encouraging. I was also able to look at my classmate’s blog post and reflect on them, so that I may learn how to improve my writing. Sometime when I would browse after just posting one of my blogs, I would find something interesting and take a peek at it. The overall experience was enjoyable and I may just keep blogging after the semester is over!

"Is There a Proctor in the Room?? Journal Revision

When Arthur Miller moves the audience to feel for John Proctor in his most desperate times I believe would have the same reaction in any situation. Proctor and his wife have been jailed, and he is forced to either throw away his partially good name, or be hung. What other option does he have than to shun her with proof, even if it meant diminishing his name even more? He confesses to his sin of adultery that he committed with Abigail Williams. While doing this, in attempt to gain trusts from the Judges, his plans are foiled by his wife who was brought in and questioned; but lies about her knowledge of Johns’ adultery. Mrs. Proctor was supposed to have never told a lie, and John assures the man that she will admit to her knowledge of it. Her being unaware of the situation, she tries to keep her husbands’ name from having anymore dirt thrown at him and wound up digger him into a deeper hole.

I would have to side with Proctor and the village of innocents being punished by blind people in power. Especially since the same girls who were dancing in the woods conjuring spirits are now the ones pointing their fingers. The Judges worry about the people who’ve committed no crime and no proof undermining the court whilst they’re all being bamboozled.

In the end, Proctor stood strong with along with his name, and died with respect. He did not sell out to become an example to the rest of Salem; but, he would rather die with his name, than live without it.

My Playlist, Myself

Schoolboy Q – Blessed

I enjoy listening to this song very much; it picks me up when I’m down. It reminds me that I am blessed to wake up every day and not be dead or in jail. How there are many other more important problems that other people are facing, and sometimes I complain about the little things. Just remember that we’re blessed every day that we wake up.

 Critical-Bill – 1000 Times

My father wrote this song for my mother so I’ve been listening to it for years. I like the idea of “love” and how it is so powerful and life changing; it makes you think how you can love a person more than you love yourself. Makes you wonder what lengths would you really go to to have your loved one back when they've gone.

Grover Washington – Just the Two of Us

I just like everything about this song: the beat, the tempo, the vocals, and the meaning. Once again it makes you think of that life changing emotion, love. Imagine yourself working on the rest of your lives with someone else, and accomplishing anything that comes your way.

Chance the Rapper - Acid Rain

I like this song because the artist speaks to you instead of just rapping. I’m a hip-hop head, I love the instruments in the beat and the meaning of the words he’s spitting. The Word play that he uses is quite elegant. "Before i had believed in not believin in, yeah I inhale (in hell), who believed in me not breathin in "

Dolla – Closer to My Dreams

Dolla is a young rapper from “the hood” who made something of himself through his music. He was shot and killed, but his music keeps him alive. I write music sometimes and it shows me that it is possible to be something more than a statistic, but people will always hate you. People will hate you even more when you are successful. R.I.P. to a great artist.
