"Disconnected" summary

“Disconnected”

The subject of the movie is three students going 3-5 weeks without using a computer. They set themselves back and use other resources for information such as the library; instead of using a computer for papers they use typewriters. It shows you that we as people have become too comfortable and having a computer is not so important.

My overall impression… impressed. It had a positive effect on me, making me realize that we have it easy with all of this technology. Let’s say that something were to happen where there were no more computers, would people know how to get the information they need without Google searching? These three students, and friends, even talk to other students trying to get them involved in what they are doing. There is most definitely a lesson to be learned here with this story. Even though these students struggled, they made it all happen without computers. Instead of e-mails and texts they sent letters, I feel that makes things more personal as well.

I think if I were to participate in such an experiment that it would be hard for me, but doable. I would have some success, I barely use technology now. Still, staying in touch with family and friends would be stressful having to send letters. Other than finding the resources needed, most of our material is in the books we just have to look for it. I feel Chel captured my reaction to the experiment, I would break occasionally only because of the stress. Some things are just way easier and less time consuming with a computer.
